LAHORE: Punjab, a concerning surge in pneumonia cases emerged late on Monday, with a record 490 new instances reported in a single day.

Within Lahore, the provincial capital, a staggering 134 new cases surfaced within a 24-hour period. Moreover, on Sunday, thirteen children tragically lost their lives due to pneumonia.
The health ministry reports a total of over 600 cases recorded within 24 hours across Punjab, the most populous province in the country. Since the beginning of the year, the disease has claimed the lives of more than 28,000 individuals.
The rise in pneumonia cases in Lahore, particularly, is attributed to the dry, cold weather conditions and pollution, notably smog. Pneumonia, an infection affecting the lungs, can be caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi. Initial symptoms resemble those of a common cold, progressing to more severe manifestations such as fever, chills, difficulty breathing, and coughing up discolored mucus.
